Recipe: Churros – Mexican Crullers

Summary: These Churros are easy to make and taste delicious


  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • Peel of 1/2 lemon
  • Fat for deep-fat frying
  • Granulated sugar or powdered sugar


  1. In saucepan bring water, sugar, and salt to boiling.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in flour all at once and beat till smooth.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time until mixture is smooth.
  5. Spoon batter into pastry bag fitted with large star point.
  6. Pipe 3-inch strips onto waxed paper or floured surface.
  7. Add lemon peel to deep fat and heat to 375°.
  8. Fry churros, a few at a time, for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown, turning as necessary.
  9. Drain on paper toweling.
  10. Roll in granulated sugar or powdered sugar.
