Recipe: Cinnamon-Sugar Churros
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup flour
- 4 eggs
- Oil, for frying
- Topping: 3/4 cup sugar, mixed with 1 tablespoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine water, salt, 1 teaspoon sugar and butter in a large saucepan.
- Cook over low heat, stirring until butter melts.
- Increase heat and bring mixture to a rolling boil.
- Add flour, all at once, then remove pan from heat.
- Beat with wooden spoon until mixture is smooth and thick and pulls away from sides of pan.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating Well after each addition.
- If time allows, set aside to cool.
- Using a deep fryer or electric skillet, heat enough oil to reach depth of 1 1/2″ in pan to 375 degrees.
- Spoon 1/2 of dough into pastry bag fitted with large star tip.
- Squeeze ribbon of dough 7″ to 8″ in length into hot oil.
- Slice off dough with sharp knife or scissors. Cook until well browned.
- Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
