Flan Americana

Recipe: Flan Americana


  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 13-ounce can evaporated milk

  • 6 eggs, well beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


  1. Caramelize sugar in top of double boiler.
  2. Mix all other ingredients well with wire whisk.
  3. Pour over caramelized sugar in double boiler.
  4. Cook on top of stove for 1 to 3 hours, covered.
  5. Test by inserting toothpick into flan until toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Turn into 9-inch pie pan or dish with high sides.
  7. Chill.
  8. Cut in wedges to serve.
  9. Serves: 6
