Recipe: Lowfat Bean Dip


  • 1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans
  • 1 tablespoon prepared hot sauce

  • 2 teaspoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoons chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 (16 ounce) carton fat-free sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups chunky salsa, drained
  • fresh cilantro (optional)


  1. Drain liquid from beans and discard.
  2. Place the beans in a food processor and process until almost smooth.
  3. Add the hot sauce, lime juice, sugar and chili sauce.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Spread the bean mixture over the bottom of of large platter.
  6. Sprinkle the onions evenly over the top.
  7. Cover beans and onions with sour cream.
  8. Top with salsa.
  9. Garnish with cilantro.
  10. Serve with tortilla chips.
  11. Makes 5 cups
